The stadium bowl at the Coventry Building Society Arena seats 32,609. Coventry City do not publish that figure — the arena operator does, and the two are separate organisations. Away supporters go in the South Stand, blocks 6 to 9, and two of those blocks are safe standing.

Capacity — 32,609 seats in the bowl, and 8,000 somewhere else

The venue operator describes the complex as having "a 32,609-seat stadium bowl and 8,000 capacity indoor arena". Both numbers are real and they describe two different venues on one site. The 32,609 is the football ground. The 8,000 is an indoor arena next to it, and adding them together produces a number that describes nothing — no event has ever been held in both at once, and no crowd of 40,609 has ever watched anything here.

As at the MKM Stadium, this is a seat count in the publisher's own words rather than a licensed matchday capacity, and it should be read that way. What makes it unusually well supported is the corroboration sitting on the same page: the venue lists its record sporting attendance as 32,609, set by England's Lionesses in the 2023 Arnold Clark Cup. A record attendance that matches the stated seat count to the seat is what a genuinely full house looks like, and it is about the strongest confirmation available without seeing a safety certificate.

The reason the operator is the source at all is that Coventry City's website is built entirely in the browser and its content service, which can be queried directly, carries no capacity anywhere. The club that plays here does not state how many seats it plays in front of.

Where do away fans sit at the CBS Arena?

Visiting supporters are located in the South Stand, most often in blocks 6 to 9. The club flags one thing about that allocation that will not be obvious from a ticket: the arena now has safe standing in blocks 6 and 7, running from row AA to row XX in both. A visiting supporter with a seat in either of those blocks has bought a place in a barrier-seating area where standing is expected for the whole match, which is a different experience from the same seat number in block 8 or 9.

Wheelchair users have a dedicated viewing platform at the front of block 8, with stewards assigned to that area, and enter the arena through Gate 25. Turnstiles open 90 minutes before kick-off and are ticket-only, with no cash gate. Car Park C is the closest paid parking to the South Stand. Food and drink are available on the South Stand concourse from the moment the turnstiles open, and every kiosk is cashless.

Two smaller rules worth knowing in advance, because both are decided before you travel rather than at the gate: flags are allowed in the away end but need the club's permission first, and drums are not permitted at all.

The sensory room

The arena has a sensory room, and it is built as two spaces rather than one. There is an external seating area with a view of the pitch, and next to it a calming room fitted with sensory equipment — fibre optic lights, sensory toys, cushions and mini-footballs. A supporter who becomes overwhelmed moves between the two without leaving the ground or losing the match.

It is supervised throughout by Sky Blues in the Community staff, and priority goes to families of people with disabilities and neurodiverse conditions who would otherwise not be able to attend at all. Places are allocated by expression of interest rather than sold, and everyone in the party still needs a valid matchday ticket. That combination — two linked rooms, permanent supervision, and allocation by need rather than by speed of booking — is a more deliberate provision than the single quiet room many grounds offer.
